I Believe, Therefore I Expect

A reporter once said to Pete Rose, “You need 78 hits to break Ty Cobb’s record. How many times at bat do you think you’ll need to get 78 hits?” “Seventy-eight,” came the answer. “Come on,” said the reporter, “you don’t expect to get 78 hits in 78 at bats, do you?”

“Every time I step up to the plate,” said Rose, “I expect to get a hit! If I don’t expect to get a hit, I have no right getting in the batter’s box.”

Whenever we pray, we need to have “great expectations.” We need to have that same attitude in prayer that Pete Rose had in hitting. When we go to the Lord in prayer, it is important that we expect an answer. And if we pray according to His will, He will hear us and give us whatever we expect.

Faith for the Christian is believing that we will get what we do not see. The reward of faith is seeing what we believe.

Prayer: Father, I want to have complete confidence that when I pray You will hear me. I know that I can do all things through You when I pray according to Your will and Your Word. Give me a faith that is strong so that when I pray I can expect my prayers to be answered as I wait patiently in Your presence: in Christ’s name. Amen.
