NOTHING BUT ENVY

Unable to think of a suitable gift for his wife, the husband asked a clerk, “What do you have for a woman who has everything?”
“Nothing but envy,” she replied.
Envy grows in our hearts like weeds in a garden. And it doesn’t help, it hinders.
If you’re exalted and I’m not, does it lift me to be envious of you? Oh, no. It lowers me.
If you’re endowed with money and I’m not, does it enrich me to be envious of you? No, it empties me.
Every time you’re green with envy you’re ripe for trouble. So let the God of love reign in your heart and the love of God will rule in your life.
Prayer: Take from our hearts, heavenly Father, all envy and evil speaking. Make us givers and not gripers, sharers and not sulkers, complimenters and not complainers. Do a work of grace in our hearts: through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
