Quiet Christians

For many years two neighbors rode the same train to work in downtown Chicago. George went to church regularly, and if pressed, would admit to being a Christian. But he never allowed being a Christian to interfere with his life. On the other hand, Will never went to church and had no use for godly things. As they rode the train each day, they discussed business strategies, sports, politics, religion, and current events. They rarely, if ever, mentioned God.

One morning Will became violently ill and was rushed to the hospital. After a series of tests, his physician informed his wife that he could not live longer than a few days - if that long. Frightened, his wife said, “Perhaps we’d better call George and talk about God.”

“George? Talk about God? Why George? He rarely mentioned God to me or that he knew Him. So I doubt that he would be the right person to call,” said Will. Without saying another word, he passed into eternity - lost.

When George heard the news, he was stunned and filled with guilt. There was nothing he could do for Will now but go to God and ask for forgiveness for not being a witness and promise to become a faithful witness to others. The words of the Psalmist echoed loudly in his ears: “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!”

Unfortunately, the Kingdom of God is filled with too many citizens like George. They know the Lord from a distance but are unwilling to speak as one of His ambassadors. They believe that they have “theirs” and that’s all that matters. But there is no denying that if indeed God has redeemed us, we will present Him faithfully to others!

Prayer: Thank you Lord for redeeming us! Forgive us for our silence and refusal to be faithful in presenting Your message to the lost around us! May we speak Your truth in love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Breakthrough!

BREAKTHROUGH
It was the first time she, JoAnn, had ever competed in the Special Olympics. She had trained hard but had no expectations of winning her race. But she did win.
After the medal was placed around her neck she ran to her parents and said, “Look mom and dad – I won! I won my race!” Tears fell from their eyes and splashed on their chests.
Noticing their tears, the judge approached them and asked, “Aren’t you happy that your daughter won the race? Why are you crying?”
Wiping the tears from her eyes, JoAnn’s mother said, “Of course we are happy she won her race. But what brought tears to our eyes was the joy we had in hearing the first words she ever uttered.”
It is easy for Christians to do good works and kind deeds in the name of the Lord without mentioning His name. And that is good. But we must also willingly and without hesitation boldly tell others of His redeeming grace and salvation.
Prayer: Give us courage, Father, to share Your message of love, hope and salvation with the lost. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Breakthrough

It was the first time she had competed in the Special Olympics. Winning the fifty-year dash was more than she could have ever expected. In her excitement, the young girl ran to her parents and shouted, "Look, Mom and Dad, I won. I won the race!"

Standing in front of the crowd, a medal for winning the race was placed around her neck. Her parents looked on with great pride, eyes filled with tears that ended streaming down their cheeks onto their swelled chests.

An official who was puzzled by their tears approached them and asked, "Is something wrong?" "No," said the mother. "We just heard our daughter speak for the first time."

Say So!

Every moment or two a teenager kept looking at his watch. The man sitting next to him on the bus noticed this rather strange behavior and became curious. It appeared to be an inexpensive watch and the man said rather sarcastically, “Does your watch tell time?”

“No,” answered the boy, “you gotta look at it!”

All of us have heard that the best advertisement is “word of mouth.” Many successful businesses have been built by one person simply telling another of a good product or fair treatment. We all rely on the words of trusted friends.

This “word of mouth” appears to be lacking when it comes to Christians. We seem to have a hard time sharing our faith with those we work with, play with, eat with. We try to behave like Christians, work like Christians, think like Christians – yet we do not “speak up” like Christians and share our salvation with others.

Paul said to Philemon, “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” We are expected to share our faith by “word of mouth.” When we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, He will enable us to speak of His salvation on His behalf.

“Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!”

Prayer: Lord, may our faith come to life in words as well as deeds. Give us the courage to share the joy of our salvation with those whom we know and love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
