Where Is God?

Sir John Franklin is remembered for being a great Englishman and explorer of the Arctic region of the planet. As he was planning one of his expeditions he decided that, based on his journeys, he would revise the map of the world.
Previous to Franklin, others had been marking unknown territories with phrases such as “Here be Dragons,” and “Here be Demons.”
But on his revised map he wrote, “Here be God.” Sir Franklin, as a result of his journeys, knew that wherever he was God would be. Even in the most distant, most lonely, and most inaccessible places he believed that he would find God.
In Psalm 121 we discover the assurance and hope that wherever we are God is with us protecting and providing for our every need – day or night. He not only made the mountains and seas, the valleys and deserts, but all that they contain.
We must never forget that the Creator of the universe is the sustainer of the universe. Trusting the One Who “put it all together” enables us to believe that He will not allow “dragons” and “demons” to overcome the one who trusts in His goodness and grace.
Nothing will ever divert or distract God from watching over His children. We can have the utmost confidence that in Him we are safe and that we will never escape His untiring watch over us.

Prayer: May we join our voices with the Psalmist, Father, and shout, “Keep watch over me, Lord, as You come and go, both now and forever!” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture for Today: Psalm 121 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

He Never Sleeps

Little Lacy had finished her night time prayers with her mother. As she pulled the sheets up tightly under her chin, her mother turned off the light.
Looking out her window she said, “Mom, the moon is shining in my room. Is it God’s light?”
“Yes,” replied her mother.
“Will God turn out His light, too?” she asked.
“Oh, no!” came the reply. “The Bible promises us that He never goes to sleep.”
God’s Word gives us the assurance and hope, confidence and confirmation that He protects us day and night. Not only did God make the heavens and the hills, the earth and the sky but gave us a guarantee that He will protect us from anything that would destroy us. We are often tempted to trust in ourselves and the riches of this world, but then we are reminded of the poor decisions we make and the failures of the best laid schemes we could design.
It is important that we remind ourselves that the God Who created the universe is the God Who created us and watches over every detail of our lives. Nothing ever causes Him to forget us or lose sight of us and our special needs. We are always safe in His hands and protected by His power. We never outgrow our need for His attentive eye or His ear that is listening for our voice.
Prayer: We are grateful, Father, that You are always watching, never sleeping, and continually protecting us every day and every night of our lives. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Scripture for Today: Psalm 121 he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Is God Asleep?

A small child was having a difficult time being quiet in church. Whispering in his ear, his father said in desperation, "Hush, this is where God lives. Be quiet when you are in His house!"
"Why?" asked the child. "Is God asleep?"
Certainly not. Our God, the God Who created heaven and earth, has promised us in His Word that He is always watching over us, day and night. We must never forget that He is "awake," watching carefully and waiting patiently to guide and guard us. This One, this all-powerful God, who loved us and gave His Son to redeem us, is always available to meet our every need.
We often forget that God is constantly watching over us and caring for us. More than anyone we know, He is for us. We often "trade Him in" for lesser "gods" who cannot be trusted - the gods of money and power, prestige and worldly success. Even though we turn to them often and trust in them frequently, only the God who created us will be faithful to us, strengthen and sustain us and never abandon us. In Him we are safe and secure - day and night.
PrayerLord, we are thankful for Your watchful eye, carefully overseeing our lives with compassion. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Scripture for Today: Psalm 121 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
