On one special occasion, Queen Elizabeth decided to honor a nobleman for his service by giving him a ring. As she presented him the ring she said, “If you are ever in trouble, send the ring to me, and I will help you.” What power that ring represented.

But there is one who is much more powerful than a king or a queen, a president or a premier who is available to us: “The Mighty One, God, the Lord,” declared the Psalmist. “Call upon Me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you and you will honor Me,” is His enduring promise.

The language of The Mighty One is incredibly significant. He did not say, “Don’t call me – I’ll call you when I have time.” Nor did He say, “That problem’s insignificant” or “Your concern does not matter to me,” or “I’ll refer that to someone else later.” Our God, who is richer than the richest and stronger than the strongest and the greatest friend we can have, says to each of us, “Call me when you are facing troubles and need help. I’m always available.” Is that not exciting? If you are facing a difficult problem as you are reading this Seed, you can stop – right now – and know that He is waiting for You to call on Him.

Not only is He available, but He gives us the assurance that He will deliver us. What good is His availability if He is too powerless to protect us, too weak to fight for us, or too poor to meet our needs? Whatever trouble we are facing – large or small, ours or someone we love – He guarantees a timely, effective, and positive solution. He will deliver us when we call!

But He does make one simple request of us: “You will honor me.” The goal of our prayer must not be to bring attention to ourselves for what He has done or will do for us, it must always be to bring honor to His name in all we do!

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the hope we have in You and Your willingness to hear our prayer and Your ability and willingness to answer them and show Your care for us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

It was a cold winter night when a fire broke out and was rapidly spreading throughout the home. The father had successfully rescued his wife and children and they were standing outside watching the firemen fight the blaze. Suddenly he heard the voice of his six-year-old son who had slipped away from the family. He wanted to rescue his toys from his upstairs bedroom that he somehow managed to open. He was surrounded by smoke.

Standing beneath the window the father shouted, “Jump, I'll catch you!”

“Daddy,” came the frightened reply, “I can't see you! It's too smoky.”

“But I can see you, Son. Jump!” said his father.

He trusted his father, jumped and was saved.

How like our Heavenly Father. His Word says: “Trust Me in your times of trouble and I will rescue you and you will give Me glory!” The word “trust” as used in the Bible means that we are “to place our complete confidence in” the Lord – a confidence that has no limits.

At times it is just as difficult for us as it was for the young son who could not see his father. Our eyes become filled with “smoke” that blocks our view of God and His power to rescue us from the things of this world that would consume us. Nevertheless, He's there. Jump!

Prayer: Father, give us complete confidence in Your Word knowing that You will never leave us or forsake us. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

A young boy was sitting on the roof of his home watching his father repair a leak in the shingles. Not realizing the steep pitch of the roof, he began to inch his way upward and suddenly started to slide downward. Realizing the danger of his situation he shouted, “O God, help me I’m in trouble and I’m going to fall to my death!”

Suddenly his jeans became snagged on a nail and he stopped sliding. Looking upward he said, “Thanks God, I’m all right now!”

Who do you call upon when you are suddenly faced with a life threatening situation? We often have a loved one whom we can call upon in a moment’s notice. Most of us are blessed with a few faithful friends who respond immediately in times of disaster. But when we are suddenly and without warning faced with an imminent threat, what then?

Fortunately, our God has promised us that we will never face any adversity alone. Again and again His Word assures us that He is ready, willing and able to rescue us when we are in trouble. He is always alert, awaiting our call and anxious to respond.

Prayer: Father, we are grateful for Your promise that we can always “call upon You in the day of trouble.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
