The waiting passenger became furious with the gate attendant when the time of departure for his flight had been delayed. “What good are those numbers if you have to change them and tell us that the flight is being delayed?” he demanded.
“Well, sir,” said the attendant, “no one would be prepared for the departure of the flight unless we keep our passengers informed.”
There is a strong statement about the character of God in this Psalm. The people were suffering and felt separated from God because of the sin in their lives. We often forget that suffering and sin are inseparable. And instead of crying to be delivered from sin, they wanted to be delivered from their suffering. But that’s not the way God works!
“You will arise and have compassion,” he wrote, “for it is time to show favor to Your chosen.” There was no doubt in his mind that God would show compassion - but it would be in His time and on His terms. Our God is a righteous God and we cannot expect Him to show us His favor if we are disobedient to His Word.
“You will arise,” said the Psalmist in confidence. He knew that God was not inattentive to their needs. He knew that “the appointed time had come.”
What determines the “appointed time” for God to respond to our prayers? Our attitude: repenting and asking for forgiveness. Then He will open our eyes and we will see Him in all of His glory at work in our lives.
Prayer: Father, may we understand the fact that we must confess and forsake our sins if we want to be blest. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Life Revealed!
A prominent biographer was asked to write a history of the Duke of Wellington. He was assured that he would have full access to everything that remained in his home as well as everything that had been written about him previously.
He began his task with great enthusiasm and interest. He studied where he went, what he did, his favorite places to visit, his family background and who his friends were. He searched through trunks and diaries. And although he had a fairly good understanding of the Duke, he was not satisfied with his research.
One day, while searching through a drawer, he came across his checkbook. He began to study what the Duke spent his money on and was finally able to put together a complete picture of who he was.
“May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation,” the Apostle Paul wrote. “Those good things that are produced in your life by Jesus Christ - for this will bring much glory and praise to God.” The fruit of our salvation is certainly reflected in how we invest the gifts that God has given us.
Our true character, who we really are, reveals the depth and intensity of our relationship with God. If we maintain a right relationship with Him and draw our spiritual nourishment from Him, others will find Him in everything we do. They will find His fingerprint on every page of our lives.
Prayer: Lord, as the author and finisher of our salvation, we ask You to be the beginning and end of our lives. May our lives reveal our submission to Your will. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

When The Date Stays Too Late
Read Genesis 18:19
“My father,” warned a girl in speaking to a boy, “is an engineer. He takes things apart to see why they won’t go.”
“So what?” asked her date, a wolf in church clothing.
“So,” she said, “you better go.”
Thank God for parents who think positive thoughts and teach positive truths; who show their children which way to go and which way not to go; who don’t confuse their children by giving good counsel with bad conduct.
God said of Abraham, “I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord.”
Can God say that of you?
Prayer: Deliver us, Lord from being poor patterns. Defend us from the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil. Grant that nothing and no one will lure us from our loyalty to Thee: in Thy name. Amen.

The Champ
Read Hebrews 13:21 NIV
A little man said to a 250-pounder, “If I was as big as you are, I’d be the heavyweight champion of the world.”
“Tell me,” he replied, “what’s keeping you from being the lightweight champ?”
You are you. The Lord doesn’t want you to be a carbon copy of any one. He wants you to be you.
You are unique. You’re distinct from all other persons. That difference is no mistake. It’s an expression of the Lord’s touch.
The Lord wants to do through you what He hasn’t done through any other person.
So let go and let Him “equip you with everything you need for doing His will.” Then your life will be beautifully and wonderfully complete.
Prayer: Father, dictate my thoughts, direct my words, and discipline my manners. Make my life complete. All through today give me pure thoughts, kind words and noble deeds: in Christ’s name. Amen.
